2AM

Freefall on the water

Dreaming at the gates

A cavern wall, wet and tall

Mires are my fate.

River bends, I descend in,

I drown when eyes are closed.

For what I see, in world's I reach

Created from nightmare strolls.

The wood bane, husks are howlers.

The water pool is dark and deep.

It's blacker than the sky at night

the sun rotates vast beyond its streams.

When 2 a.m. looms over

My mind transforms to beast

Attacking all of the sides of self

Devouring my memories.

They scream in the silent louder

Reflective as a quote,

A demon on the back of me

Invisible to the soul.

I can feel it pointing,

I can see it with my third eye

It wears a veil, black and frail

It points as it hides behind.

It's the thing you see in cracks

Turning quick at every corner:

Popping, watching, dipping, ducking

Insanity recoiled.

It was born from my closet

Locked away; Hidden behind a door.

It moved the hangers back and forth

A premonition as a warning warned.

For twenty years it spread,

Tearing away at my mind

Mornings I wake my eyes I rake

Fighting the demon alive

For when I die I know,

I've made an immortal promise.

I'll find the thing that followed me

My ending is my warning.

Since the dawn of time

There was only dark.

Send it back from hence it came,

We're all floating in the lost.

The unknown is what I've known

From something to nothingness

Black and white all shades of plight

The grey, the gloom, the glory.

If dreams are simulation

Then reality is a construct

What's up is down

And all around

We've no notion where we're floating

When I close my eyes

I don't know where I remain

Do we sleep while we're awake

Scratching from the grave?
