A Delta Blues Poem
I woke up this morning
I never slept a Z's,
A train howls in the dark
I got a dog barking all at me.
Thunder's gonna come
Can't wash away a memory,
I got a bad feelin',
Somethin's comin you can't see.
White lightnin roars
When the ship hits the beach,
Floodin' thought's pourin in
Drownin' puddles, around me.
I'mma tell you my troubles,
Before I'm washed out to sea.
Empty-Jar in the quicksand.
I can't reach from A to B.
And, how we gonna breathe?
When this river...
Takes - You - From - Me.
No words spoken.
Never knew what I mean,
To your heart and soul
My Belle, My Queen.
Footsteps in the mud
One oar's layin next to me.
Coughin' up, that water.
Driftwood's my priest.
There's salt in your tears
Salt in the Ocean
Paddle the wheel,
Keep on rowin'!
Bound to the earth
Bound to the hope'n.
The raft that you weave(d)
Makes it to mornin'.
Find me in the dark
Find me a floatin'
Dry your eyes,
From cryin and moanin'.
Sought with your light
The lantern is glowin',
Down by the river
The storm keeps rollin'.
I battered my head,
Shook at the notion.
Broken by time,
And what's been stolen.
A knock at the door.
Black Angel comes.
With a Devils stare..
A Black Snake tongue.
Give em his due.
Pay 'em a token.
For makin a deal with
The Deadman's Bosun.
