The Parting
Take with me peace
go without me war
forget the wings of prevalence,
remain grounded when I soar.
All those wasted years
forget a thousand yesterdays,
forget all of my tomorrows
erase some moments of today.
Pacing in my thoughts
I have to stand when asked to sit
every mundane moment of our time
life passes by each minute.
Old age, young and new
every gender, every hue
I have no love within my soul
because tonight I thought of you.
Take this cup and toast,
to the living dawn of the memory
you gave up and now you're ghost,
you're coffin is now my enemy.
History now that's swept
the dirt lent ground unkempt
to the place we never went
my word is now my evidence.
The stories told and laughed
in the mourning hours that passed
we sat and raised a glass,
to time in memoriam irrelevant.
The path that you now choose
will not bring me back to you
for we parted ways..
You chose the day.. I chose the shade.
